Lithuania gained her independence during the period between the two world wars (1918-1940). The independence was short-lived as the Russian troops occupied her in 1940 converting the country into one of the integrated republics in the former Soviet Union.
Lithuania led the lengthy independence process that included fatal military interventions, until 1980 in the Baltic countries. She gained her independence on 11 March 1980 being the first republic to declare independence from the Soviet Union. However this was not generally recognized until September 1991 (consequently to the head of state in Moscow). Since Lithuania has structured her economy with a view to integrate to the EU that she achieved in May 2004. |

Lithuania is a Baltic state whose commercial exchange was mainly carried out with Russia. This has gradually decreased as a consequence of the Russian economic crisis in 1998.
The latest outlook indicates the growth rate to decelerate to an index between 5 and 6%, which would be sustainable being of a high level in relation to the other European countries. In addition Lithuania is to adopt the Euro as national currency on 1 January 2007.
According to the Prompex statistics from March 2005, the Peruvian exports to Lithuania reached 11.8 million dollars compared to the imports from Lithuania that rose to 10.3 million dollars concluding the commercial balance to be positive by 1.5 million dollars in favour of Peru.
The principal products imported by Peru are urea and ammonium sulphate. Our exports consist of fish flour, colour lacquers, alimentary products of seafood and thread or textiles.
